I don’t notice the fan problem until I whipped away my Ubuntu and installed the Microsoft Windows 7. Probably in Ubuntu, I used the hack mentioned in the Aspire One Community Ubuntu Documentation. Now, the noisy fan is really bothering me. After search the web for a bit, I found this freeware. However, most of the blog sites mention this application supports Windows XP and Vista. What about Windows 7 Beta?
Since I treat my Acer Aspire One just like a toy, I am brave enough to install the fan control to see if it works well on my Aspire One or not. To begin with, you have to install the TVicPort 4.1 Free Personal Edition library. The default location is C:\TVicPortPersonal but I changed it to C:\program files\TVicPortPersonal. The next screen is very confusing. There are a whole bunch of check boxes for different Windows development platforms. I guess they probably be some sort of ActiveX control library development environment settings. I leave all the check boxes are checked. At the end of the installation, the installer needs me to restart my Aspire One. Click Yes to do so.
My Aspire One comes back from rebooting. The mosquito like fan noise is still here. The next step is installing the fan control itself. I double-click on the AA1FanControl file and Windows 7 asks me if I really want to run this application. Click on Run to continue and all of the sudden the fan noise IS GONE!!!! It’s awesome!!!

There is a small green fan icon appears on the taskbar. Right-click on it, the fan control panel comes up. You can change the temperature settings and have the fan control autostart or not.
